Lewis Hamilton has done it again, having taken Pole position at the Abu Dhabi Qualifying on Saturday, with his team mate, Nico Rosberg, on P2 and the vivacious Daniel Ricciardo taking P3 position.
All of which goes to demonstrate that the Mercedes team, workers, drivers and cars, are continuing to work in union to deliver the desired results consistently.
Lewis Hamilton has driven masterfully to pip his team mate for Pole by about 3 tenths of a second, having been the fastest driver in Practice 1 and 2.
And so, as we now move onto Sunday for the final race of the 2016 Formula 1 season, to see what is to be the outcome of the deliberations of the gods, in determining whether it is to be Rosberg or Hamilton who is declared the World Champion, all is finely balanced. If Lewis and Rosberg are on the podium after the race on Sunday, it will have meant that Nico Rosberg is the 2016 Formula 1 World Champion!
Truth to tell, with the high level of consistent and reliably performance which both Lewis and Nico and their team and cars have been delivering, at least over the past 4 or so races, it is highly likely that Hamilton and Rosberg, all things being equal, will be on the podium at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Which would mean that, unless the gods of misfortune resort to creating mischief, Nico Rosberg will be the 2016 World Champion.
With the odds being so overwhelmingly in Rosberg's orbit, Lewis Hamilton's primary motivation and objective for this race is to make it another achievement by winning it. The focus needs to be that of winning this race, and not that of trying to win the World Championship. Outside of winning this race, there is nothing else Hamilton can do to win the World Championship, because, even winning it does not guarantee him winning the Championship. For him to win it, it would have to be gifted to him by the gods, and, the only reason why they would do such a thing, is to be bloody-minded and sadistic.
So, Lewis, now that you have become one with your Team, with your car, with your mind and body and with the energy which vibrates around the Yas Marina circuit, all you and your team have to do during the race, is to repeat what you have done during Qualifying.
That is your only task, which you are required to do with as much style and panache and inimitability as you can muster up. Thereby giving all Formula 1 fans and others watching the race, a race to remember. Go for it, man, and make it happen.
For you, Rosberg, the challenge, and it is one which is well within your competence, is to stay safe and drive as consistently and reliably as you have been doing for the last 3 or 4 races, and get yourself on the podium for your first Formula 1 World Championship! You can do it, so do it.
To all the Formula 1 drivers and teams; have a safe, exciting and enjoyable Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and thrill your audience.
