Yes, we can remind ourselves that this is what the United States of America normally does.
There are many examples of it having done it all over the world, and all throughout the ages, since it became an independent country in at the end of the Eighteenth Century.
When you are a powerful bully, clothed not in apparel of legality and/or morality, but the powerful garments of military might, you can afford to bully any country which is not able to stand up to you.
The Russian government, Syria's ally in this proxy war, has not yet made any spectacular comments about the US's blatant and unacceptable aggression against Syrian government forces.
This is probably as should be expected, from a pragmatic perspective.
After all, the Americans have unjustifiably killed Syrian government forces before, and will most probably do so again.
Their motivation for this latest attack is likely to be more than what they have said about the Syrian forces making a coordinated attack on their so-called Syrian Democratic Force mercenaries.
It is likely to be all part of the Americans 'punishing' the Syrian government in response to the allegations about chemical agents being used by government forces in the brutal - which is the way of war - campaign in Ghouta.
As well as being part of the American's response to the appeal to 'do something about Ghouta.
The Russians will undoubtedly extract a proportionate price from the Americans for this action, but they are going to do so in their own time, and on a planned, and, yes, machiavellian basis.
Which is why the best that they have done, is to comment on how "very regrettable" this American aggression is, and to ask the Americans for an explanation.
Which, as far as the Americans are concerned, they have already provided. Namely that they had attacked and killed many Syrian solders who have been defending the sovereignty of their country, from external aggression from the United States of American.
So, it is not that the Americans have not given an explanation; it is just that their explanation is an invalid and unjustified one.
One which they could not have given, in any case, considering that it is very obvious that they are in the wrong; that their action is illegal.
Which is how the Syrian government also needs deal with it. You do not confront your more powerful adversary on his terms, or even on his turf. You seek out his achilles heel and cut it. Yes, the focus needs to be on destroying the SDF, by getting them to destroy themselves.
