It is nearly been completed; the agreement between the three parties forming Germany's next Grand Coalition Government, barring the hopefully, unlikely event of the SPD members not voting to support the agreed deal. Of them not heeding the 'Brexit-like' we will go our own way', message of JUSOS, and its media adored young leader, Kevin Kuhnert.
All 3 political parties, the SPD, CDU and the CSU, have had to make some sacrifices in achieving the coalition agreement they have arrived at.
Of course, the cost is likely to be different, as we can see from Martin Schulz having decided to step down from leading the SPD, in his attempt to appease the more vociferous and vengeful of his SPD detractors.
This is a massive personal sacrifice Martin Schulz has had to make, in sacrificing his political career within the sphere of Germany's political establishment.
How big a sacrifice it is for the Social Democrat Party, is something which is not going to become evident for sometime.
What we do know is that Martin Schulz has, for the sake of his country. Changed his post-election plan to firmly place the SPD on a the path of becoming the main opposition.
To what was then thought to be the likely minority coalition government of comprising the CSU, CDU and the Free Democrat Party.
Martin had wanted to lead the SPD into campaigning for what he hoped might have been the SPD recouping its losses to the likes of the AfD.
And becoming the dominant political party in the next federal elections in Germany.
Probably unfortunately for the SPD, although there is nothing to suggest that he and the SPD would have been successful in realising their vision. He has decided change his plan.
Martin Schulz has decided to place the demands and needs of his country above those of himself and his political party. Which is as it should be.
For those who love controversy, such as the media, and oftentimes mainly for itself, Martin Schulz's sacrifice is not something they are likely to acknowledge and appreciate.
Neither is he likely to get the appreciation her deserves from the more populists and navel-watching sections and members within the SPD
To be continued!
