JUST A THOUGHT - ON SEPROD'S PLANNED MASSACRE OF JAMAICA'S ENVIRONMENT AND CRIME AGAINST THE PEOPLE. PART 1.

Jamaica, although being one of the largest of the Caribbean Islands, is still, in comparison to other islands and countries, a very small place. In fact, at its longest points, it is only 146 miles long, and at its widest, 51 miles wide.

In terms of  square miles, Jamaica is only 4,243 square miles. As I said, it is, in comparison to other countries, a very small one.

It is the kind of place where, if the people of Jamaica are not very careful and take much more care of their environment.

Jamaica risk becoming like Haiti, a country which has been denuded and deforested for centuries.

A place which, without trees and forest, is lacking in habitable habit for plants, animals and humans.

Somewhat like a desert, if you like, with soil erosion running amok, and the land becoming dry and parched, and the chemistry between soil, plants and atmosphere becoming dysfunctional.

With the rains becoming inhibited and water becoming scarce, as it is not being replaced by the natural ecosystem which it requires.

Jamaicans, especially the wealthier ones, are already given to making a mess of and disrespecting their environment. They can sometimes prioritise 'appearance' above substance and the quality of content.'

As they topped their mountains to build ostentatious mansions on them, creating the fissures in the environment to trigger soil erosion and the hazards of flooding for those in the valleys below.

In the past, the renown Maroons of Jamaica would retreat upto the largely inaccessible mountains, from where they would lead raiding parties against the Spanish and British colonialists.

But, today, the mountains have been made more accessible, too accessible, and have become the retreat of the wealth Jamaicans and foreign expatriates.

Jamaica's ecosystem and environment is, of course, also under attack from other sources.

To be continued!
