Even though, logically, Bottas' achievements during the pre-race preparations were clearly the result of him having bettered Hamilton in their comparative performances.
We could see it on his face and demeanour during the Qualifying ceremony. However well he attempted to conceal it with an economical smile.
And so it was, that Hamilton, aided and abetted by Team Mercedes, had to pull out all the stops and surpassed his team's mate's brilliant achievements during practising and qualifying sessions.
It would not have been enough to simply convert P.2 in Qualifying to a P.2 finish in the race.
Hamilton had to progress to overtaking Bottas and win the Spanish Grand Prix.
Which is what he did, having been assisted at the start of the race. By him, Bottas and Vettel having skilfully and carefully executing the critical overtaking and defensive manoeuvres.
Which saw Bottas' car being sandwiched and forced to yield the lead to Hamilton.
Thus did Hamilton provided a somewhat less than gentle 'tap' on Bottas's houlders.
To remind him that it is he, Hamilton, and not him, Bottas, who is the incumbent Master Formula 1 Racer.
To be continued!
